"Twilight" - A Guest BOOK Review!

Well, we've branched out.

I've had plenty of Guest Reviews for movies before.

But here, we get our first Guest BOOK Review.

Thanks, PkmnTrainerJ.

Here, without further ado, is a book review from PkmnTrainerJ for:

Twilight

FYI...

If you're looking for a guest MOVIE review of Twilight, you can find it here.

************************
The email:

Hey moog,

So long as there's a picture of the book at the top, and some thing highlighting how much of a fag that Robert Pattison/Patterson(?) is, I think this should be fine with a bit of your moogy magic.

************************

The review of Twilight:

What a load of utter bollocks.

People claimed that the Twilight series would be the ‘next Harry Potter’ and I should have learned to ignore the whole ‘next
’ advertising by now, especially with Heroes being spread about as the next Lost, when it doesn’t come anywhere near close.

Ah Lost, you are so damn sexy. Mmm...Lost.

Back to Twilight.

If you don’t know, Twilight is a book series by Stephanie Meyer, and is now also a film series.

In it, there’s a pale emo girl called Bella, some vampire guy called Edward I think, and in later books some werewolf comes in to make a love triangle. How you can screw up great science fiction/fantasy figures such as vampires and werewolves this badly is beyond me.

The best description I’ve ever heard for this book is “self-insertion fan fiction” from someone I follow on Twitter.

When you’re seeing things on websites like “oh, I want to be with Edward sooo much lolololol” & “I wonder what Bella’s baby will be called, I hope it will be half werewolf” etcetera, etcetera it certainly holds true.

I started up the book with an incredibly slow start, and I set it down for a few days and tried to get back in to it later on. I stopped again soon after and wondered whether the allure was just for female folk as mentioned above, but I could watch something like Buffy easily, and basically liked the Underworld films which utilised the whole vampire romance thing + werewolves, so thought that must be it.

Then, a colleague at work came in early, and said he was reading Twilight while waiting for his shift to start.

I thought of two things.

A) He’s a big queermo, in which case all the things he’s said to me have not been in jest

B) Maybe it’s just me that doesn’t get the book.

I told him it was the worst book I’ve ever read, and he started to defend it.

Our conversation was finished with me saying “Vampires. That. Glitter” and then he didn’t speak to me for the rest of the shift. Or again...oh well, no big loss.

THEY FUCKING GLITTER. NO DEATH. JUST GLITTER AND SPARKLES.

So, I tried picking it up once again when I got home, and just couldn’t do it.

It’s so terribly shit.

It’s the kind of stuff you’d expect from someone in Year 4 or 5 (about 5th Grade for America) if they wrote a short story that had to include, themselves, two fantasy races and a love story.

I only managed to get about 150 pages in to it, before I could see where the story was going, with the weird lab, the pale girl and the vampire bloke, and didn’t give a shit.

I wasn’t invested in the story because Bella hadn’t been built up very well at all. This is the only book I’ve started reading and never finished. It was that bad.

If you’re a guy, I wouldn’t advise getting this book.

If you have a girlfriend, don’t get her this book.

If you’re a woman, you already have this book, and will comment to complain at me.

***********************

So, I don't get it, PkmnJ...did you like it or what?

I guess it's a mystery.

Anyway, that's Pkmn's take on Twilight for my first ever Guest Book Review.

Thanks, dude!

Go check him out, folks. He's a good guy and apparently has issues with really shitty books.

Moog out.

Step Brothers - Lbluca Steps UP!

Today, I have a very coveted guest post.

Lbluca77 has graciously accepted a position on the Moog's Movie Review guest couch.

(It only took two martinis and four Rohipnol tablets to score this...but kudos to me!)

Lbluca is reviewing the film:

Step Brothers

Awesome.

I asked her to do this for two reasons:

1) I'm fucking lazy

Actually, that's the only reason.

I saw the movie and agree with everything she says here.

I'm easy like that.

**************
Email from Lbluca:

Ok this was harder than I thought (that's what she said) but still fun. I had to go back and watch some of the parts I forgot in the movie. One of these days I am going to have to learn how to make those fancy pictures you put up. - Lbluca

**************
The review

Step Brothers

When you have two 40 year old infantile man-children who are delightfully unemployed with the maturity level of a 12 year old that never left home and are then forced to live under one roof after their parents get married there is only two things that are a guarantee:

1) You will hysterically laugh and...
2) You will see a drum set get tea-bagged.

Every second of this movie is hilarious with non stop laughter that you will make you feel like you are walking on a cloud while your penis is tingling.

(editor's note: Um....?)

After discovering they both have adult children that won't leave the nest Nancy (Mary Steenburgen) and Robert (Richard Jenkins) fall in love, get married and make an attempt to blend their two families.

(editor's note: I just realized Richard Jenkins looks almost identical to the guy who plays the President's husband on the new season of "24"....which means I'll never be able to watch that show without thinking of Will Ferrell's ballsack)

Brennan (Will Ferrell) or as he prefers to be called Night Hawk, is an overly sensitive guy that also loves to sing. Then there is Dale (John C. Reilly) who likes to go by the name "Dragon" and enjoys playing the drums and being a bully to Brennan.

Together while sharing a bedroom with two twin beds they make each others life and their parent's life a living hell. That is until they discover a mutual hatred for Brennan's douchey brother and his even more douchey kids.

Once they establish a bond over the love for John Stamos, bunk beds that provide so much room for "activities" and some freakish sleep walking, the fun begins.

This movie makes peeing simultaneously in a toilet with your step brother look fun. Even if you are a girl.

Maybe not.

Eventually the parents get more and more fed up with their childish behavior and tell them they need to get jobs. Good luck. Even with their best efforts to get a job, despite sporting a monkey suits and informing their interviewer "We're here to fuck shit up!" the job hunt was unsuccessful.

(One of the most entertaining parts of the entire film. May I suggest you wear a diaper when you watch this.)

Next time my boss asks me what I am doing I plan on telling her that I am here to fuck shit up.

I am sure she will tell me I can see myself down to HR for my dismissal papers.

Despite there being some "over the top" shenanigans like licking dog poop and being scared of actual 12 year old boys this movie is one of Will Ferrell's best and is a must see...

...especially the unrated version.

Lbluca's Score:

I am giving it 3 mooge splats.

********************
Awesome, Lbluca!

FYI - my wife's friend and her husband COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY HATED this movie.

This is why I don't ask them to do reviews.

I will say this: If you like Anchorman and Talledega Nights, you'll like this.

If you hate those, you'll hate this.

Thanks, Lbluca!

Go read her if you don't already - great blog and a very funny person.

Actually, I'll thank her when she wakes up.

Four roofies might have been too much.

Moog out.

Zombie Strippers - a Guest Review!!

Hooray!!

A faithful reader has stepped up and answered my call for a review of:

Zombie Strippers

Thanks, Pusher Robot!!

Here goes:

*****************
Moog,

After reading your post regarding the movie Zombie Strippers, I felt it my duty and obligation to immediately put it on my Netflix list and send it right to the top of the queue.

I know what you're thinking:

This is just gonna be a bunch of half naked women parading around for the entire movie jiggling their goodies on screen. Why would I want to see that?

Well ... for exactly that reason.

What? Are you stupid?

Is it my fault that 90% of the movie takes place in a strip club? After all, who am I to judge?

Ok, so here's the deal. If you like "stupid" movies like "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" you will LOVE this.

Zombie Strippers is a must see if:

a) you like gore and guts
b) you like boobs
c) you like the funny.

Yes, that's right. This movie is FUNNY.

There are all kinds of humorous bits stuck in throughout this movie, including, but not limited to badgers and an undead cat-fight.

My apologies for the brevity of this review but, well, a dozen dead breasts are calling my name and well, we can't keep them waiting now can we?

Personally I have to give this 3 Mooge splats (out of 4) just for entertainment value alone!

At least that's what we'd give it in the old country!

Pusher Robot

************************
Thanks, Pusher!! Awesome review!

(off to rent the movie now)

Go show Pusher some loving. Zombie-Stripper style.

Twilight - and the Chick who Hated It.

Got another guest review today.

This is good, because it saves me money on movie tickets.

That means more I can spend on pay-per-view porn.

Awesome.

Today, it's Arielle from over at her blog, "Bitten."

She's reviewing the movie:

Twilight

Here you go:

******************

Out of the four movies I went to see over Thanksgiving break, Transporter 3, Bolt, Quantum of Solace, and Twilight, the latter movie was the worst.

(editor's note: Transporter 3?! Really?!)

Go see the first three before you think about setting foot in the theater for Twilight.

I think the only other movie that did worse in ratings over the break was Four Christmases, and it's number one in the box office right now. How does that work?

I will admit that I have read all four of the Twilight books, so I am no virgin to the series.

(editor's note: heh heh...you said 'virgin'. Sorry.)

I liked the books and I like vampires, but I am not a Twilight fanatic.

I went into the movie optimistic, hoping they wouldn't screw up the story like they did with Eragon. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, consider yourself lucky.)

I dragged along my fiancée because we had a deal. I went and saw Transporter with him, so he would go see Twilight with me.

(editor's note: thank you for explaining...now, dump your fiancee...seriously...f*cking Transporter 3?!?)

Several people told me that Twilight was a decent movie, and his sister and mother went and saw it with us. It was their second time going, so there had to be something decent to see again, right?

I won't bother with a synopsis of the movie, because it's basically your typical teenage romance with vampires thrown in and a little bit of action at the end.

The book was followed well, but the characters were expressionless and empty.

I can understand the vampires in the movie showing less feeling, but the girl was human and she made the same face throughout the movie whether she was crying or confessing her undying love to the vampire she just met.

The movie itself felt slow, clunky, and awkward, yet the story moved too fast. I guess a lot of book to movie adaptations happen this way, but it felt like only a few days passed in the whole movie, yet they were completely in love forever and ever.

Watching this movie made me realize how cliché and awkward the book was.

When it's in text, it seems fine, but when you actually see it being acted out, you take a step back and realize that it's completely unrealistic, from the way the characters spoke to the way they acted, it just didn't seem natural.

I've spoken to many people who have seen this movie, and this is the general idea I get from them:

Demographically, teenage and young girls will love this movie. The girls will sit in the movie and say, "OhmiGodEdward'ssoooohot!"

People who actually pay attention to the movie instead of dreaming of themselves in Bella's place will notice how bad it is. People who have not read the books (like my fiancée) will be confused for the better part of the movie. He asked me halfway through if the main character was gay.

(editor's note: seriously...he likes "The Transporter" movies...you think this lack of wit is due to him not reading the f*cking books?)

Twilight fanatics will vehemently swear that the movie is good because they don't want to admit that they're obsessed about a pile of crap.

My fiancée's mom admitted only after the movie was over and after we complained about it that she didn't like it, and she didn't have a good reason for coming back to see it again.

All in all, watching this movie was like watching a teenage girl's fantasy gone wrong, and it was uncomfortable to sit there and see it play out. I should have just stuck to the books. Now my fiancée won't read it because he saw the movie.

(editor's note: too easy)

Oh yeah, and there are going to be three more movies in this series.

Hopefully, the acting gets better. I haven't decided yet if I'll go see the other three.

My score:

I give it 1 star/Mooge splat/toaster out of four.

...and that's only because I'm a girl, and maybe I did fantasize a little bit about being in Bella's place.

Just a little bit.

************************
Thanks, Arielle!! Awesome review!

We need to talk about your fiancee, though.

Seriously. He has issues.

Now, readers...go give Arielle some lovin'.

Zeitgeist Reviews. Um...wha...?

Got another guest review today.

This one is a repeat guest reviewer, Zac.

To read Zac's review of Wanted, go here.

Here's today's review of Zeitgeist and Zeitgeist Addendum.

Yeah.

I have no idea, either.

******************
I wrote a movie review, but I'm not sure it's your style. Post it if you'd like, but i understand if you don't.

Zeitgeist: The Movie & Addendum

I finally got around to watching both movies over on http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/, and after watching I now feel compelled to share my thoughts on them.

First off I have to say both movies are very interesting and worth a watch if you can find the time or gumption to sit at your computer for 4 hours or so.

Both contain very insightful information to varying degrees, but like all media, I’d advise all watchers to view with objectivity and decide for themselves what the information really means to them. That being said, on with the review.

Zeitgeist: The Movie

Of the two, I liked this one the least.

The information was all well and good, but it focused too much on the past as opposed to where we are now and where we’re headed. The movie was separated into 3 parts. I only watched the movie once so I can’t give you a detailed recant of what each part contained, but I’ll try my best.

The first part was about religion, specifically the origin of the Christian belief structure and it’s similarities to a plethora of ancient religions. Ironically, I think this chapter does more to legitimize the existence of the bible, through it’s parallels with astrological movements, than it does to debunk Christianity as a whole.

The next part was about 9-11 and the World Bank.

This section may or may not have encompassed all of part 2 and 3, but both were connected. The 9-11 conspiracy theory stuff I could have done with out. It’s not that I don’t agree with it necessarily. I think, at least on some level, it’s probably true.

It’s just I can’t find a reason to care. Not to belittle the loss of life, but the events of that day, whatever the truth is, are a symptoms of the root problem. The actualities make little difference. Only how we move forward from it does.

The World Bank parts were the most fascinating and disturbing, especially considering today’s market. The film really did a great job of explaining our financial system, and accurately predicting it’s inevitable collapse. The information though was mostly tied into 9-11 and past world conflicts, as opposed to a true dissection of the system. Luckily Addendum delves deeper in to this subject.

Zeitgeist: Addendum

I’m not sure how much I can really say about this movie except that everyone should watch it. This film mirrors my own views so closely, it’s almost scary.

This is especially true when I consider that I came to these conclusions completely independently.

This movie delves deep into the inherent corruption of our current economic system and gives the watcher a better understanding of that system. But more then that, it lays the foundation of thought needed to move our evolution forward and beyond that corruption.

I believe that what is proposed in this movie is not a question of if, but one of inevitability. In order for us to move forward, we must readjust our whole way of thinking. This will happen with or without our consent.

So that’s it.

Again, if you choose to watch these movies, keep an open mind and be objectionable, regardless of if you agree or not…after all, that’s kind of the point.

************************
Thanks, Zac!!

FYI - if you do a review, send me a "splat" score (see table on the right) so we can categorize these things appropriately.

Saw V - PoetrySue takes a Cut at it

Hey kids!!

Well - another one of our readers has sent me her very own guest review.

(If you have a movie you want to review, just send it to me. I have the instructions at the end of the review)

This one comes from PoetrySue over at "So Sue Me."

Sue is reviewing:

Saw V

Personally, I didn't go see it because after seeing Saw, Saw II and Saw III just felt like the same movie...

...except with extra Roman numerals.

Listen, when your movie tagline is:
"Saw IV: Now there's a 'V' in the title!"

...you might want to move on to a different project.

But, to each his or her own.

Here's Sue's review:

***********************
Ok MOOOG since you are loser who can't go see anything unless it is a chick flick or a kid's movie in the theaters. I used Bruce's money and sacrificed a Friday night to go see a real movie for you.

Saw V

The most recent installment in the ultimate mind f*ck movie series.

I went to an 11:45pm showing on Friday night. Mostly because I did not want to get stuck with all the teenagers taking their dates out hoping to score.

If you have seen the trailers for this movie then you have seen the opening sequence.

There is a guy who wakes up and finds himself strapped down to a table with a huge pendulum hanging above him.

This does not end well for dude on table. But it is very exciting to watch.

In this movie almost all of the old "Jigsaw" murder scenes are revisited.

Remember the FBI agent from Saw IV? Well he's going back over things with a fine tooth comb.... looking for..... well a person.

I hate spoiling movies so don't expect anything like that here.

There is plenty of beheadings and people getting blown up and blood splatter for any Saw fan.

The only complaint... it was too short. It was only like an hour and twenty minutes long.

My sister said:

"If they could make Titanic a three hour movie why the hell do we only get an hour of Saw? What the F*ck Man?"

I love my sister.

Needless to say they left the end open enough for another movie (keep your fingers crossed). But they wrapped things up enough to end the series if they want to (lets hope not).

I give it 3 Mooge Splats (out of a possible 4)

...simply becuase It was so short...

...another 45 minutes would have given it a 4...

*************************

Thanks, Sue!!!

Bangkok Dangerous (..heh..you said 'Bangkok')

Hey kids!!

Well - another one of our readers has sent me his very own guest review.

(If you have a movie you want to review, just send it to me. I have the instructions at the end of the review)

This one comes from Chris Wood over at "Chris Wood's Blog" (wow...very original title there, Chris).

Chris is reviewing:

Bangkok Dangerous

I don't know about you, but everytime I Bangkok, I consider it dangerous as well.

Stupid bruising.

Here's the review! Enjoy!

**********************

Hello Moog

I saw the shit festival reviewed below this week, so I thought that I should get something for my time. Hope this can be used on your site.

Best

Chris

(editor's note: I actually thought he went to a real 'Shit Festival' until I realized that this was a movie review)

**********************

Bangkok Dangerous

I’d like to start this review by saying that I used to really like Nicholas Cage.

Very few people could carry off the Elvis obsessed cool guy psycho he played in Wild At Heart, David Lynch’s colourfully eccentric mindfuck.

The Rock and Con Air had plenty to entertain in them, and Face / Off was cram full of feelgood violence.

Fair nuff, I thought.

This man knows a thing or two about entertainment, even if he does have a gurn threshold that would make Jim Carrey wince.

Recently, though, he’s been in plenty of lame turds.

Next was so bad that only Jessica Biel’s boner-inducing performance as Jessica Biel could redeem it to the point where the audience wasn’t envying the blind.

Ghost Rider was so far up its own arse I had no idea a motorbike could fit that far. I punched myself out during The Weather Man, so luckily I didn’t have to see it.

Worst, he took a shit on one of the best horror movies ever, The Wicker Man, in a remake that, on its own, is a good argument for abortion.

So this remake of a 1999 movie, Bangkok Dangerous, didn’t invite a great deal of expectation. But I was bored and I like the simple pleasure of watching people get shot, so I thought I’d try it.

These days, Mr Cage is often ponderous. And. Morose.

He thinks a lot about how shitty his hair looks, and it depresses him.

This shows.

He drawls too, because only crap actors speak clearly.

What’s worse, he doesn’t have any fun! Cage of old would stick cockroaches up his arse and fuck a hamster to death if the film got boring. He’d have his manic peepers set to full gibber while he assaulted the senses with his taste in clothes, often whacking an old lady on the head with his balls just to make sure we were entertained.

In this yawnsome wet fart of a movie he meanders around Bangkok being an asshole, occasionally murdering people in between ponderous bouts of narration that explain how hitmen never form attachments, allow accomplices to live, leave their driving licences at the scene of the crime etc.

He then breaks all these rules for no apparent reason.

He gets a trainee who thinks he’s a dick (this guy is the only sympathetic character), also he falls for a deaf assistant at a chemist, because he’s really logical and their lack of communication suits his current acting style.

We then get an attempt to rip off The Killer with its oddball romance, honour and so forth. A few people get killed. He is an asshole some more and his assistant gets tortured in a really crap way by some guy who basically stands there sneering at his dress sense.

There is some rather dull killing and more action movie cliches get ripped off and lamed down. The deaf woman gurns emotionally. The assistant / trainee has a slow mo “noooo” bit and the Cagester shits on his reputation some more.

Avoid this turd. If you’re bored, this won't help.

Chris Wood's Score:

1 Mooge Splat (out of a possible four).

King Kong: Attack of the Ariolas

Hey kids!!

Well - another one of our readers has sent me his very own guest review.

(If you have a movie you want to review, just send it to me. I have the instructions at the end of the review)

This one comes from tonka_boy.

He decided to go old school and review King Kong.

Not the Peter Jackson one with Jack Black and the guy with the big nose.

Not the one with f'ing screaming hot Jessica Lange.

No.

The OLD one with people who, I'm pretty sure, are all dead now.

Here it is.

Enjoy.

*********************

BTW, you may be wondering who the hell Norm Rogers is, and is he really a loyal reader? In reality, I show up in your community as tonka_boy. You've seen my picture in your side bar - dashingly handsome guy with hat & sunglasses. Yeah, that's me.

Anyway, I've got a movie review for you. You can use all or part of it, add anything you want. You don't have to link to my blog. It's rather a different genre than most of your other readers.

Photos attached.

King Kong - 1933 - directed by Merian Cooper & Ernest Schoedsack. Staring Fay Wray and . . . nobody f *ucking cares who else is in it.

This film was produced in a time before movies had two titles. Now days, every movie has a second title, like . . .

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

The Mummy: Tomb of the Emperor Dragon

Batman: The Dark Knight

The reason that movies have two titles these days is to remind the viewer they are being totally, f*cking bored out their skulls by a different - Star Wars, Mummy, or Batman than the last one they watched.

Luckily, there are enough AD-HD folks watching movies today to keep Hollywood in business.

But I've digressed.

If the 1933 version of King Kong were to have a two titles, it would be . . .

King Kong: Hey Kids, Lets Look at Fay Wray's nipples!

At this point, my female readers can click to another site (unless you can enjoy the niceties of the female form, in which case, please send me photos of your favorite female form).

But I've digressed . . . again.

The first half of King Kong (1933) is all about Fay Wray's lovely nipples poking through any sheer material the costume department could possibly put together.

The second half of the movie is about a big monkey or some such nonsense.

Interestingly, censors cut some scenes from the movie in the late 30s, but they were later restored by horny, red blooded film historians - obviously more in touch with their inner male child.

The great thing about this movie is you can watch it with the Mrs or the kids, and no one will know that you are fixated on those two perky, little spots on the screen.

You can get this classic from most rental outlets - but make sure you get the 1933 version, staring Fay Wray. You may be disappointed by a more current rip-off showing Jessica Lang in a body stocking.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

You can watch all the plasticine porn you want, but in this flick, it's what you don't see that makes it all worth while.

I give it 4 nips.

(Editor's Note: I'm changing this to the "Splat" format...you know...for consistency):

Tonka_Boy's score:

4 Mooge Splats (out of a possible four)

Wanted: Angelina Jolie (um...duh)

Today, we have our first-ever Guest Review.

Today's reviewer is Zac.

Zac was previously made famous over on "Mental Poo" where he dared write in to me for advice.

Not sure if he'll do that again.

Hopefully, by now, he's also kicked that wicked heroin habit.

Regardless, I received the following review from Zac for the movie:

Wanted

****************
Right now.

Stop what you're doing, get in your car, drive to the nearest theatre and see this movie NOW!

Seriously, everything about this movie was awesome.

Great special effects, freeking crazy action sequences and some of the coolest gun battles since Equilibrium (another movie you should watch).

Not to mention Angelina Jolie is so hot that I knocked out the guy in front of me and buttered his popcorn.

I give this movie 1/2 Mooge Splats less then whatever you gave Iron Man, cause that's the only movie this year that's better than Wanted.

Why are you still reading this? You should be at the theatre.....go! I'm watching you!

****************

Well...there you go.

I think he liked it.

According to RottenTomatoes.com, it's getting pretty good reviews as well (about 80% of people liked the movie).

Thanks, Zac. Your review is appreciated.

Zac's Score (1/2 splat less than my four-splat Iron Man Score):

3-1/2 Moog Splats (out of a possible four)

Moog out.
